Quick Impressions – Aquarion EVOL – 11

Episode 11 –

It seems that this week’s episode of Evol finally linked the ongoing events back to the first season, though it’s not exactly clear as to what exactly the link means. One thing that seems certain is that fun time is over, and that things are going to get quite serious in the next couple of weeks. There has been a ton of foreshadowing and buildup with regards to the strange relationship between Amata, Kagura, and Mikono, and that continues to play a major role in the ongoing events of this series. With the mysterious Mikage also plotting something in the shadows, obviously something is amiss.

The connections to the first season mainly have to deal with how Kagura and Mikono seem to be the reincarnations of the main couple from the 1st season of Aquarion, and yet, it seems that Amata is the bearer of the Solar Wings that only the main hero from the 1st season had. The situation is quite difficult to fully comprehend, and gets even more complicated when you consider how Mikage seems to be interfering in all of this somehow. Mikage is seeking the original Aquarion from the 1st season, yet as of now I don’t quite see why. And let’s not forget that Amata is implied to be Eve’s relative (son or some other relation). There’s a bunch of huge questions that the series has brought up with this episode, and I get the feeling the implications from these turn of events can be devastating (especially for Amata).

With that being said, with this series being a 2-cour series, there’s still plenty of time for the series to answer these questions. I do wonder if the rest of Aquarion will be serious and drama heavy like this week’s episode, or if it will have interludes of silly fun similar to what we’ve seen in the first half of this show.

  1. don’t forget the other weird mystery of the week; zessica seeing Apollon and Sylvie in a vision. What was that? What is she the rebirth of that she would witness their farewell, but still see that mikono is sylvie?

On a semi-unrelated note, if Kagura is Apollo and Mikono is Sylvia, they better eventually end up together. It would be a giant slap in the face to fans of the original series if, after 12,000 years, Apollo and Sylvia’s reincarnations still don’t get to be together because Apollo turned evil for some reason.

    • Oh yea, forgot about Zessica’s vision. Does this mean that Zessica is closely related to all of this somehow?

As for Kagura, the suspicious point here is that although all signs point to him being Apollo’s reincarnation, why is it that Amata has the Solar Wings? I suspect that the evil dude is interfering here somehow, which is why I’m uncertain as to how the story will unfold.

      • Well, it’s not that strange. Apollonius was split between Apollo and the Aquarion itself in the first series, so the prevailing theory is that Amata is actually the modern reincarnation of the Aquarion itself.

As for Zessica, Celiane was also split in the last series, so Zessica may either be half of Celiane or she may be celiane while Mikono is just Sylvia. Either way hopefully this means they’ll start using her again soon; they’ve gone a long way towards destroying her character in the last few episodes.

      • Oh I see. I don’t quite remember the 1st season terribly well (it is rather old). But the theory about Apollonius, Amata, and Kagura would make sense in context of everything that’s happened so far.

Well, we’ve only reached about the halfway point for this series, there’s plenty of time for the story to change up.
