Episode 09 –
Well, I could definitely say that this episode was rather cute. Cute in the sense that the episode was all about Junichi getting jealous and worried, as well as showing his more innocently genuine side by trying to prove himself a good boyfriend. It was fun to see him go all out panic mode when it came to Sae, and while some of his antics were facepalm-worthy, this iteration of Junichi was quite a likable guy. Aside from a bit of inner turmoil for Junichi, though, this episode played things rather safely. There was none of the super silly fanservice you might expect from Amagami, and in it’s stead we got a bunch of lovey-dovey Junichi x Sae moments.
Not that the lack of fanservice is a particularly bad thing, but Amagami is kind of known for it’s absurdities, so the lack of such feels a bit strange. I agree with others that say that AIC has toned down this sequel, but it does admittingly allow for a much stronger focus on the romance relationships themselves. Considering the nature of this series, I guess that should be a welcomed surprise.
Anyways, it looks like there’s some drama coming up next week. And then after that, it seems that the long awaited Haruka arc will finally be upon us. But until that final arc, I guess it’s simply time to relax and enjoy.
