Kaichou wa Maid-Sama – 24

Episode 24 – Maid Latte, Melting things Away – ラテ・マジックでメロメロリン♥ (Rate Majikku de Meromerorin)

Oh my god, I haven’t had this much fun watching an episode of this show in ages. Kaichou wa maid-sama episodes had been painfully repetitive, but Hinata’s introduction really induced a lot of changes, which I’m really happy with. Hinata’s presence forced Usui’s hand in trying to be even more serious with Misaki, and with her realizing that she now sees Usui differently from just a “friend”, our main relationship is finally starting to come together, piece by piece.

This episode introduces a magical girl day at Maid Latte, where Misaki shows her devotion to her job by marathoning the entire four seasons of the show in a series of all nighters (o.O);;  Aoi was left just as wide eyed as I was when I heard that Misaki had watched, taken notes, and studied that much of the show.

Of course, the main highlight to this show was the awkward tension between Misaki and Usui, where Misaki was so embarrassed that she couldn’t face Usui with a straight face. Usui, on the other hand, is acting more serious around Misaki, perhaps because he’s finally taking the Hinata threat more seriously.

It’s kind of disheartening to see how Hinata, a hard working honest guy, is almost guaranteed to end up not being with Misaki; just seeing him fighting so hard for his crush is really sweet on his part, and has me cheering him on a bit. But, after seeing how this episode showed Usui and Misaki in a deep embrace behind Maid latte, with Usui even using some “magic to prevent lies”, Misaki couldn’t help but utter how unfair Usui was being with his words, all while silently staying in that embrace. After seeing that entire scene, there was no way I wasn’t satisfied with how the Usui x Misaki relationship has turned out so far.

At this point, all the development that has been going into their relationship for the past twenty or so episodes is finally starting to pay off, with some genuine reciprocation of feelings between them. The funny thing is, for some reason I feel like as if the romance happened pretty naturally; perhaps it’s because of how slow paced this show had actually developed their relationship, to the point that it almost felt like it was the same as usual.

I really enjoyed seeing Misaki and Usui together this episode, with their lovely moment together being my favorite scene in this entire series so far. There were some pretty funny gags revolving around the Russian Roulette and Kurotatsu’s gang too, which was funny to watch. The humor this episode was nothing new, but just watching the characters this episode really made up for it.

Overall Enjoyment: 4.4/5
