Episode 09 – 「いくらで買います？ なるほど！関係ないな！俺たち！ ベネズエラ」

“For how much are you buying this?” “That’s Right! It has nothing to do with us!” “Venezuela”
The first half of this episode is just like any other typical SYD episode, as it is a series of sexual jokes. At this point the main characters as well as all the side characters that have been introduced, including the new ones like Kaede. What I found the most funny this time around was Takatoshi’s essay for the school newsppaer, which is about a stranded cat, and it was interesting to see how Shino, Aria, and Suzu each had a completely different interpretation of the same essay. (And who the heck is sailor George?)
Also, I noticed that, even though Takatoshi was the most quiet and passive character in the beginning of the season, it seems like he is now getting really frustrated (and probably getting used to at the same time) with the jokes; he even sometimes doesn’t respond to Shino’s lines lately.
The sports festival starts with the second part of the episode and, just as expected, there are plenty of fan service scenes for the viewers like Shino getting roped twice (first one, second one) in a row. I’m not quite sure whether she’s doing this on purpose (of masochism) or she’s just too clumsy to tie ropes.
Also, there were some flags raised on the relationship between Takatoshi and Mutsumi, but they should be taken with just a grain of salt as SYD is purely a comedy show; it is also different from Seitokai no Ichizon, which sometimes deals with main character’s relationships with the council members quite seriously.
Anyway, it looks like we’ll learn more about the maid that appears in the OP theme in the next episode, and I think it’s pretty obvious that she’s working for Aria’s family as there have been plenty of hints about the affluence of Aria’s family. This show really needs more new side characters to diversify the jokes, so this is definitely welcomed news. 😀
